Central Arkansas Christian’s Lady Mustangs took a pair of lopsided wins over the last week, while the Mustangs went 1-1.
Steve Quattlebaum’s girls improved to 14-7 but a more-important 7-1 in 3A-6 play with their second wins over Jacksonville Lighthouse, 77-26; and Helena-West Helena Central, 53-34.
Matt Hall’s boys are 14-4 and 8-2 after falling to Jacksonville Lighthouse, 49-46 (after winning the first meeting, 49-43) and knocking off Helena-West Helena Central for the second time, 54-41.
Lady Mustangs
Lighthouse never had a chance last week, falling behind after one quarter, 37-6; at halftime, 57-15; and after three quarters, 67-23.
Riley Bryant led CAC with 23 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Ava Knoedl added 19 points, four rebounds and three steals. Livian Burton had 10 rebounds, four assists, four deflections, two steals and two blocks. Reese Shepard recorded seven assists, six deflections and four steals. Jaydyn Smith notched six steals and four assists; Lily Wooderson added nine rebounds and two assists.
Against Helena, the Lady Mustangs had big first and fourth quarters (15-7 and 13-3, respectively) to get the 19-point win.
Bryant led again with 21 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Knoedl added 17 points, four rebounds and three steals. Burton had nine points, 15 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Shepard recorded four assists, four deflections and two steals.
Episcopal Collegiate leads the conference standings at 16-5 overall and 10-1 in league play, followed by CAC, DeWitt (14-5, 7-2); Helena-West Helena (10-4-1, 6-3-1); Jacksonville Lighthouse (6-14, 4-7); Palestine-Wheatley (1-14-1, 1-6-1); Dollarway (1-16, 1-7) and Lisa Academy West (0-10, 0-9).
The Lady Mustangs were scheduled to visit DeWitt tonight, but the winter storm has forced a postponement. A new date wasn’t confirmed by press time, but they will play host to the Lady Dragons on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

CAC’s boys saw their eight-point lead after three quarters vanish against Jacksonville Lighthouse in the three-point loss.
Lighthouse won the first quarter, 14-12; but the Mustangs led by halftime, 27-23, and extended their edge to 39-31 heading into the final period. But Lighthouse prevailed in the fourth, 18-7, to avenge its earlier loss to CAC by 49-46.
Steven Massey led the Mustangs with 23 points, hitting 13 of 14 free throws. He added five rebounds and two assists. Sam Maddox recorded 12 points and two steals; Grayson Wilson pulled down eight rebounds.
The Mustangs recovered from the loss with a handy 13-point win over Helena-West Helena Central on Tuesday. CAC led after the first quarter, 18-13; and at halftime, 35-21.
Andrew Haughaboo recorded 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Wilson added 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists; Maddox handed out four assists.
With the loss to Jacksonville Lighthouse, CAC slipped to third in the 3A-6 conference standings behind Episcopal (13-7, 9-1) and Lighthouse (13-12, 9-2). DeWitt is fourth (11-9, 5-5), followed by Helena-West Helena Central, (10-7-1, 4-6); Dollarway (2-15, 2-8); Palestine-Wheatley (1-14, 1-7) and Lisa Academy West (1-9, 1-8).
The Mustangs’ game at DeWitt, scheduled for today, has been postponed because of the winter storm. A new date was not available by press time. They are set to visit Dollarway on Friday and play host to DeWitt on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
