Basketball: North Little Rock stomping their way to a title game

In a game North Little Rock almost dominated from the state, the Lady ‘Cats punched their ticket to the 6A state championship game next week by beating Springdale Har-Ber, 64-51, on Saturday afternoon at Little Rock Southwest.
The 6A title game will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday night and will be televised by Arkansas PBS. North Little Rock (27-4) will face conference rival Fort Smith Northside in the championship game.This will be the third time this season the conference rivals will have played this season.

This is coach Daryl Fimple’s seven state title game appearance overall in a coaching career that spans from Shirley to North Little Rock with Lonoke in between. Fimple has won four state titles at North Little Rock. The Alma native passed 500 career wins last season and has been at North Little Rock for 17 seasons.
“This was our 14th trip to the semifinals,” Fimple said after the game. “We looked it up this morning and it is our 14th trip in 17 years to the final four.
Senior guard Jasirae Vick led North Little Rock with 14 points. Vick has signed to play at Itawamba Community College in Mississippi while fellow seniors Destinee Duckworth and Amauri Williams were right behind with 12 points each.
Williams, who sat most of the first half due to early foul trouble, scored all her points in the second half.
Duckworth will play next season at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, a Division I school that plays in the Ohio Valley Conference while Williams has inked with Vanderbilt.
The team’s other senior, Amminesha Patterson, will play next season at Mississippi Valley State.
North Little Rock’s four losses were to Conway, twice, and out-of-state losses to Bossier City, Louisiana Parkway and Frisco, Texas Memorial in tournament play.
Har-Ber ended the year 22-5, with losses to Conway, Cabot, Farmington and Miller, Missouri as Caylon Koons led all scorers with 21 points.
