Basketball: Win some, lose some for North Little Rock

It was both a good and bad night for basketball on Tuesday night when North Little Rock traveled to Cabot.

Johnny Rice’s boys squad took care of business and defeated the Panthers, 64-57, to maintain second place in the 6A-Central. North Little Rock is 17-2 on the season and both losses are to league leader Little Rock Central.

Senior guard D.J. Smith had a very D.J. Smith kind of night as he finished with 26 points for the ‘Cats.

The 6A state tournament has been pushed back a week, and the No. 2 seed from the Central would play at 7 p.m. on March 12 at Fayetteville High School.

There’s still one more regular season game left as North Little Rock will host Fort Smith Northside on March 4 for Senior Night.

On the not so good side was a stunning 53-43 oss for the North Little Rock girls.

The loss put the 6A-Central standings in a big blender as makeup games are still scheduled for other teams in the league. The standings matter because of seeding for the 6A girls state tournament at Fayetteville.

The 3 seed from the Central would play the sixth place from the West at 4 p.m. on March 9, while the 2 seed would get a first-round bye and not play until 4 p.m. on March 12.
