Maumelle Charter’s basketball season has at least one more game left as the Falcons travel to Melbourne for the first round of the Class 2A regionals.
When they get there, they’ll face the home-standing Bearkatz at 7 p.m. on Wednesday with the winner advancing to the semifinals at 7 p.m. on Friday and the championship game at 7 p.m. and consolation game at 1 p.m. to follow on Saturday.
Melbourne enters the game 16-6, while Maumelle Charter is 16-9.
For Wednesday’s loser, the season will be over.
There’s been some changes for how the post-season will operate, according to the Arkansas Activities Association.
The AAA announced on Monday morning that crowd size is now at 50 percent of the arena’s capacity but other rules are still in place.
“Everyone at a AAA event is required to wear a mask at all times except players who are actively participating,” a AAA press release said.
This follows Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s announcement from last week where he lifted previous Covid-19 restrictions, but left the mask mandate in place.
Other Covid recommendations from the AAA include:
Have separate entrance and exit points for facilities to avoid congestion and aid in social distancing.
Create and display COVID-19 information signage throughout the venue.
Use tape, paint, and signage within the bleachers and around the facility to mark areas where spectators may gather to maintain social distancing. Specify where spectators and participants may sit.
“Tickets will be sold online through the AAA and there will be no money exchanged at the door,” said Melbourne’s Kevin McCarn, who is the school’s athletics director and serving as the regional tournament director.
McCarn added games, “will be livestreamed by Lake Area Sports through the AAA” app.
The regionals start at 1 p.m on Wednesday with 2A-5 champ Lisa Academy North against Cedar Ridge. Other first round games include:
White County Central vs. Bigelow: Thursday, 1 p.m.
