Football: Maumelle travels to Robinson this Friday
www.arkansasnewsroom.com
Joe T. Robinson will host Maumelle* this Friday night in a Pulaski County rivalry game.
The game had originally been scheduled to be at Maumelle but the new turf there is not quite ready for action and the game was moved.
*NOTE: The first version of this story incorrectly stated the game would be at Maumelle and thanks to KATV’s Max Bennett for the catch!
The Hornets are coming off a 31-21 victory at Sylvan Hills last Thursday, while Robinson took one on the chin in a 60-27 loss to Pulaski Academy.
It was a sloppy game at Sylvan Hills but the Hornets powered through as senior wide receiver Roderick Watts had two touchdown catches, while quarterback Weston Pierce also scrambled in for a rushing touchdown.
Maumelle’s Jessie Knight added a defensive touchdown when he scooped up a fumble and rumbled back 24 yards for the score. It was one of four fumbles the Maumelle defense forced in the second half as Sylvan Hills offense stalled out
Kicker John Bruchhagen sealed the win with a 24-yard field goal. He was also perfect on extra point attempts.
Plays of the Game:John Bruchhagen, above, had the 24 yard field goal to seal the win for Maumelle while Jesse Knight, below, picked up a fumble and ran it back 24 yards for a touchdown.
Players of the Game: Roderick Watts, below, had two touchdown catches from quarterback Weston Pierce, who also had a scramble for a touchdown. The Pierce to Watts connection was fruitful against Ozark as well as the pair accounted for two touchdowns in that scrimmage.
