After an up and down year last season because of Covid, Maumelle football is already looking forward to this Fall with its 2021 schedule.
“We have a really good schedule,” Maumelle football coach Kirk Horton said Friday afternoon.
Indeed.
The regular season starts with a Week 0 trip to Sylvan Hills for a Thursday night game against the Bears, that’s followed with Robinson at home on Sept. 3 and then a trip to Vilonia on Sept. 10 before the Hornets get a bye week before the start of the 5A-Central.
But first up, there’s a benefit game to be played at Ozark on Aug. 20, that will undoubtedly bring out the college recruiters as both the Hillbillies and the Hornets are loaded on the lines.
Ozark’s top prospect is Brock Burns, a 6-foot-4, 290 pound rising senior, who has offers from multiple Division I programs. There’s also Bryar Yates, 6-3, 325, and R.J. Karns, 6-2, 305, while Maumelle counters with Andrew Chamblee and Caleb Stroud on the offensive line, while Nico Davillier is a top prospect on the defensive line.
They are also massive.
Chamblee is 6-6 and 280 with his final Division I choices narrowed down to: Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Penn State and Tennessee.
Stroud is even bigger at 6-7 and 325, while Davillier is 6-5 and 260. He’s also a terrific basketball player for the Hornets. Both Stroud and Davillier are considered top college prospects.

“We have five seniors back on the offensive line," Horton said. "We have the players upfront.”
The conference season starts on Sept. 24 with a trip to Little Rock Christian, while Pulaski Academy looms on Oct. 15.
The regular season ends on Thursday, Nov. 4 with a home game against Little Rock Hall.
“Our conference is as good as any in the state,” Horton said.
That’s also true, the 5A state championship game has seemingly turned into the PA-Christian invitational.
