Football: Mustangs to welcome Bulldogs for Senior Night

Central Arkansas Christian will play host to Bald Knob on Friday for Senior Night at Mustang Mountain.
It’s a battle to avoid the cellar in the 4A-2.
Tommy Shoemaker’s Mustangs are 2-6 overall and 0-5 in league play after a 42-13 loss at Lonoke last week. The Bulldogs are 0-8 and 0-5 after they fell to Clinton, 56-28.
“Senior Night, the last home game at Mustang Mountain — it’s important to our guys and a big deal for them,” Shoemaker said. “I’m hoping we will play well and be a little more consistent on both sides of the football.”
Nine seniors will close their CAC careers — Tyler Williams, Isaac Rine, Jackson Morse, Landin Ramer, Cauy Blevins, Olisa Adiguwe, Andrew Teer, Andrew Milam and Jace Love.
“They’ve been a part of two pretty good years the previous years,” Shoemaker said. “I’m disappointed for them that we’re going through this rough spot. They’ve really done a good job this year in spite of the difficulties, in spite of the challenges we’ve had.
“We’ve still had great practices. They’ve done a great job of leading. We just haven’t gotten the results on Friday night we wish we would’ve gotten. It’s a great group of kids, and we hope we can get them a win on Friday in their last home game.”
CAC won this matchup last year, 35-14. Bald Knob has a new coach, Lonnie Roberson, who moved up from defensive coordinator in the spring. The Bulldogs returned five starters on each side of the ball and run a Spread offense and 3-4 defensive scheme.
“They’re in all their games,” Shoemaker said. “They punt a lot, but they’re decent on defense. I think our strengths and weaknesses kind of match up a little bit. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.”
CAC had a few moments last week at Lonoke.
“We came out, got a turnover, moved the ball right down the field and punched the ball in,” Shoemaker said. “They were just a little bit too explosive for us defensively. And we had some turnovers, too, and some things that we can’t do and have a chance to win.”
