It was a red carpet night at The Venue at Westwind for the Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet.
The event was to announce the Maumelle Person of the Year as well as other honorees from 2024. It was also a celebration of Maumelle’s 40th birthday as the city was incorporated in 1984.
The Business of the Year was First Service Bank, represented by Sanda Finley, while Person of the Year was Eric Holloway, a local engineer and developer.
Other honorees include:
Veteran of the Year – Ron Milazzo
Educator of the Year – Amie Csege (Maumelle Middle School)
Student of the Year – Jack Carden (Maumelle Charter School)
Volunteer of the Year – Norm Milner
Ambassador of the Year – Travis Henderson
Impact Award – Courtney Dunn
Holloway, for one, was surprised by the award.
A Q&A with Holloway, above, has been lightly edited and formatted for publication follows.
>> Were you surprised by the honor?
Completely Surprised! I am not sure that I am Maumelle Person of the Year in my own family. My brother is the Fire Chief and is notorious for his dedication of duty. My sister is one of the most selfless humans alive and I learn a great deal from her every day.
>> What do you think most contributed to you being honored?
I have been deeply involved in all Maumelle events and I suspect my volunteer work as the president of the White Oak Bayou Wetlands Conservancy played a role. Overall any acknowledgement like this is typically a manifestation of my father’s efforts for this community over the years. Our company has been in Maumelle since 1978.
>> How long have you been active in the Maumelle chamber?
I have been engaged for many years, so at least 12-15 years.
>> Anything else you'd like to add?
Only that we, Holloway Engineering, are very excited about the future of the city. Things move slow at times but really good stuff that I believe people will enjoy are coming. City Hall has an amazing leader and staff at the moment so we should all be proud.
The city of Maumelle’s Courtney Dunn, above, also received the Impact Award from the chamber and a Q&A with her follows. It has also been lightly edited and formatted for publication.
>> Were you surprised by the honor?
Yes, the award was a total surprise. I am truly honored by the award and the kind words that were noted behind it.
>> What do you think most contributed to you being honored?
I would say my involvement in the community via different capacities— My position/role with the City of Maumelle, the close partnership I have with The Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce, my involvement with the Maumelle Charter Schools, etc. Maumelle is my hometown so my love and passion for this city pours over into all of my roles and activities.
>> How long have you been active in the Maumelle chamber?
I have been attending chamber events since I was a child, but I have been most active since the hiring of Kellie Wall. Kellie and I have built a great working relationship between her and I but also we have strengthened the relationship between the city and the chamber.
>> Anything else you'd like to add?
Happy 40th Birthday Maumelle! We are celebrating at all community events throughout the year, stay tuned! Mark your calendars for June 25th--We will be celebrating Maumelle officially turning 40 on this day! There will be an event at city hall to include displaying history, maps, photos and more. See you there!
