Kerry Blakemore, going into his seventh year as band director at Maumelle High School, was recently inducted into Phi Beta Mu, an international bandmasters fraternity.
The induction occured this summer at the Arkansas Bandmasters Association Conference.
A native of Texas, Blakemore, seen below, has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello and is working towards a master’s degree in jazz studies. Before coming to Maumelle, he was the band director at McGehee High School.
Maumelle’s band program has won 10 sweepstakes awards and also has had the most members named all-state in the school’s classification under Blakemore’s direction.
Blakemore is also a member of the Arkansas School Ensemble and Orchestra Association, band fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi and Alpha Phi Alpha, one of the Divine 9 Greek Letter organizations.
