Maumelle, last year’s Class 5A runner-up returns the bulk of its 22-6 team with guard Carl Daughtery Jr., who signed with the University of Central Arkansas on Wednesday, along with power forward Nico Davillier, who is also an Arkansas football commit and guard Riley Wade, who coach Michael Shook said on Tuesday is still recovering from an ACL tear this past spring but is expected to fully recover.
CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Bears signed Carl Daughtery Jr. to an NCAA Letter of Intent on Wednesday.
Daughtery, from Maumelle High School, is a 6-foot-2 combo guard who averaged 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the Maumelle Hornets as a junior.
"CJ is an elite shooter and can score in bunches,' said UCA head coach Anthony Boone. "I am very excited to have another young man of great character and academic prowess to become part of our UCA family.'
Daughtery joins Cameron Wallace of Little Rock Parkview as recent Bears signees.

Kaleb Thurman was last season’s sixth man, but, “will have a role as a starter this year,” Shook said and added, “Colby Garland, Dexter White, Jamaal Summons” will all be newcomers to watch.
“We should be a contender in our conference and across the state,” Shook said.
Maumelle has played for three state titles under Shook but has never come away with a ring. That might change next March as the Hornets will be among the state’s best in Class 5A.
The season will get rolling with a bang on Thursday as Maumelle will host the annual Hoopin’ 4 Hoodies tournament and the Hornets get Pine Bluff at 8 p.m. in the last of two games of the night and then action picks back up on Saturday in what might be the most anticipated game of the year when nationally ranked North Little Rock makes the short drive to Maumelle for a 7:30 p.m. nightcap of five games.
