84 Students and 12 teachers at Maumelle Charter High School earned incentive pay totaling $32,100 for Advanced Placement (AP) passing exam scores. This is the highest incentive amount the school has ever paid.
AP exams are scored on a scale from 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest score. Since 2012 Maumelle Charter High School has incentivized AP students by rewarding $100 when making a 3 on the AP test, $150 for a 4 and $200 for a 5. Students earning a 3 or higher also receive college credit for the corresponding course at most colleges and universities saving the students and parents tuition costs.
Teachers earn the same amount of money for each of the students in their classes who score a 3, 4 or 5.
The student checks ranged from $100 to the maximum payout of $650. The top recipients were Joel Jefferson and Ashlynn Pecanty ($400), Christian McGill ($450), Dain Poff and Leila Scroggins ($550) and Ethan Chin ($650).
The teacher checks ranged from $350 to the highest payout of $5,150.
Funding for this incentive program is provided by the Maumelle Foundation for Education, the Maumelle Charter PTO and Academics Plus Charter Schools.
