The final meeting of the year for the Maumelle City Council was mostly an uneventful one.
The meeting, held Monday, Dec. 21, featured both a light agenda and three Council members attended virtually.
Among them was Chad Gardner, who was at home and in quarantine after a family member was exposed to Covid-19. “We're all fine,” Gardner said. The biggest item of business was a budget resolution to transfer some 2020 expenses from the city’s general fund over to the street fund and it was approved. “It makes good sense to move these ‘street’ expenses out of our general fund and into the street fund so that it will give us more budgeting flexibility in the future,” Gardner said. Outgoing council members John Vaprezsan and Marion Scott Coney were also recognized for their service to the city by Mayor Caleb Norris, while Misti Sweere was honored as the city employee of the month. Norris also noted Doug Ladner’s service to the city of Maumelle. A former alderman, Ladner has remained active in the community by serving on various committees. Ladner was also a long-time member of the Joint Emergency Medical Services Board and a position he recently retired from.
