Maumelle Middle is among the Pulaski County Special School District schools that will be virtual for the remainder of the week, district spokeswoman Jessica Duff announced in a press release on Monday afternoon.
The other schools in PCSSD that will be virtual this week are: Sylvan Hills and Robinson middle schools and Landmark and Cato elementary schools.
Sylvan Hills and Robinson have been virtual since Jan. 11.
Schools were closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Duff said the decision for Maumelle Middle to pivot was because the school had, “quarantined an increasing number of students and staff in a short period of time who have been identified as probable close contacts.”
She said the number of actual positives for Covid-19 still remained low and that in-person instruction would resume on Monday, Jan. 25 for all schools, for now.
A 4-day meal box will be available for pick up on Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. and can be requested by calling 501-234-4517 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
The phone number to request the 4-day meal box for Robinson Middle is 501-234-3754 and 501-234-2770 for Sylvan Hills Middle.
The Arkansas Center for Health Improvement reported last week that 201 of the state’s school districts, of 86 percent, had high Covid-19 infection rates.
ACHI uses known new infections per 10,000 district residents and use 50 or more per district. Of those 201, 54 districts had rates of 100 or more per 10,000 residents.
Every school district in Pulaski County is included with Little Rock, the state’s largest, at 100 or more known new infections.
PCSSD, North Little Rock and Jacksonville were still in the 50 to 99 category.
