With 10 seconds remaining, Maumelle coach Michael Shook drew up a play on Tuesday night.
It was tight and all tied up 56-56 against conference powerhouse Jacksonville with just 13.2 seconds remaining.
Shook’s goal was to get the ball into the hands of Junior guard Carl Daughtery, Jr., and see if he could get open for a shot.
After the inbound, the ball went to Daughtery in the right corner and he buried a three-pointer with 6.6 seconds remaining to give Maumelle the 59-56 lead. Daughtery finished the game with 21 points.
Jacksonville still had a chance but its desperation three-pointer fell short and Maumelle stayed atop the 5A-Central leaderboard as the Hornets improved to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in conference.
The win sets up a showdown between Maumelle, and the conference’s other unbeaten -- Sylvan Hills -- this Friday at Maumelle.
No days off in the 5A-Central either, as the following game Maumelle will host 8-4 Little Rock Christian on Tuesday.
