Maumelle’s Skylar Brown, a junior soccer player at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, was named the American Southwest Conference Defensive Player on the Week on Tuesday.
Brown graduated from Maumelle High School where she was All-State as a senior and as a junior led the Hornets to the state finals played at the University of Arkansas. She played club ball for Real AR.
Brown’s defensive effort in the back allowed Ozarks to open the season with a 1-0 win against Mississippi University for Women on Feb. 5.
Brown fought off attacks by winning balls in the air and limiting the Owls to just three shots on goal. Brown was named All-Conference last season and had 17 starts. She was also named Academic All-Conference.
