Katie Johnson was named interim principal at Maumelle Charter High School last week after Kimberly Willis resigned.
Johnson was the school’s assistant principal and previously was the high school counselor for two years and also taught English at the school for six years.
The change was announced by Rob McGill, the Chief Executive Officer of the school system, in a letter to parents and posted to the school’s website.
“I thank Ms. Willis for her service to [Maumelle Charter High School], and I wish her the best in her future endeavors,” McGill wrote and added, “I look forward to witnessing Mrs. Johnson's leadership through the next few weeks as students and teachers close out the year.”
Johnson went to high school in Conway and has multiple degrees from the University of Central Arkansas.
In the letter, Johnson said her purpose in education, “is to help students realize their potential and inspire growth and change to make our world a better place for the next generation.”
McGill said the position would be advertised and that he was, “committed to hiring the best person available equipped to move [Maumelle Charter] forward in the future.”
Mrs Johnson deserves this position. She has given Maumelle Charter her very best. If she can serve as interim principle for the remainder of the year, she deserves the position permanent. Mrs Johnson is one awesome teacher. I dealt with her a lot as Counslor she was the best. I appreciate everything she did for my student. Like I said she has given MCHS her all. I think MCHS should give Mrs Johnson their all.
