The Man in Black and an Arkansas pioneer of the Civil Rights era will have statues sculpted and placed in Statuary Hall at the United States Capital in Washington D.C.
The statue of Johnny Cash will be done by Little Rock’s Kevin Kresse, while Boise, Idaho’s Benjamin Victor will sculpt Daisy Bates.

The pair were selected by a committee after their models were reviewed, it was announced on Monday by Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston.
The Cash and Bates statues will replace James Paul Clarke and Uriah Milton Rose. Clarke is a former Arkansas governor and U.S. Senator who died in 1916, while Rose founded Little Rock’s Rose Law Firm and died in 1913.
Victor doesn’t have any previous works in Arkansas while Kreese’s sculptures are abundant.
Among his works in North Little Rock are the Mother Earth Fountain in Argenta and also statues at the St. Joseph Center.
