In a Friday afternoon press release, the Pulaski County Special School District announced that AMI, or alternative methods of instruction, days will continue through Monday and Tuesday of this week.
North Little Rock School District also has an AMI day on Monday as well.
This follows after a significant increase of active Covid-19 cases in the state as that number now stands at 59,579, as of Sunday afternoon and the Arkansas Department of Health reported a total of 9,323 deaths.
Since Jan. 1, Arkansas has added over 30,000 active cases as the state barrels towards a complete, and preventable, disaster.
Both districts said they would continue to evaluate the state’s health crisis and make decisions on a day-to-day basis.
PCSSD will have a School Board meeting on Tuesday and on the agenda is a resolution about the district returning to a mask mandate for students and staff. The board had previously voted to end the mandate late last year.
A special school board meeting was held last Thursday in North Little Rock and mask mandates were not on the agenda. Unless a special meeting is called, the NLRSD school board won’t meet again until Jan. 20.
In Maumelle, the Academics Plus system that includes Maumelle Charter elementary and high school will have a board meeting on Monday and the issue of masks is expected to come up.
PCSSD will be providing two-day meal boxes for parents. They can be picked up between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday at the following elementary school campuses:
