The Arkansas Forestry Commission, among others, recommended to the city of North Little Rock that a controlled burn be done at Burns Park on Tuesday.
The burn will start at 11 a.m. and access to the park will be limited to prohibited on Tuesday morning. Also working on the controlled burn are: the Central Arkansas Master Naturalists, The Nature Conservancy, and the North Little Rock Fire Department.
Expect to see and smell smoke across much of central Arkansas on Tuesday and the areas most heavily impacted will depend on wind and weather conditions that day but smoke should be expected in portions of North Little Rock, Maumelle and Little Rock.
The burn will cover 130 acres with most of the area south of Interstate-40.
For those familiar with the park, the work crews will be stationed at the trailhead and Equestrian Parking near the I-40 overpass that connects to the baseball and softball fields north of the freeway.
Areas closed include:
Equestrian parking
The Green Trail, Yellow Trail, White Trail, Red trails
Archery Range
BMX Track
Little Log Cabin
Covered Bridge
Smoke and embers are expected through Friday night, depending on weather conditions and the burn will reduce the potential for uncontrolled fires in the area.
For more information, call 501-791-8540 or go online to nlrpr.org to review the 15-page burn review plan.
