The always ambitious theatre arts and dance department at North Little Rock High School has adapted to the ongoing pandemic in a typically clever way as it has gone virtual.
Set for tonight, “Fall for Dance” will start at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets, said dance teacher Christen Pitts, are pay what you can and are available for purchase at our.show/NLRHS/fallfordance
Once the order is placed, an email will be sent that includes the link to watch the performance.
This is the first of two scheduled performances for the school’s dance troupe with the other to follow in the spring.
Thursday’s performance will be the 48th since the dance program was founded by Pitts in 1996.
Pitts served as choreographer for the show and the students will be joined by guest artists. They include:
Marisa Kirby, teacher at Dance Dynamics North
Hannah Hagerman, Untapped Professional Tap Company Member
Allison Stodola Wilson, Co-owner at Shuffles & Ballet II
Deanna Stanton, Ballet Arkansas Company Member
Katie Greer, Theatre teacher at Episcopal Collegiate and dance teacher at Arkansas Academy of Dance
Pitts said that because of Covid-19, getting this year’s performance has been very different from ones in the past.
“We cannot gather in person for a live performance,” she wrote in an email. “We cannot have large groups backstage, no sharing dressing rooms, performers must dance in masks, and we also need to limit moving in and through one another while performing to maintain social distance.”
But, Pitts added, the school’s, “dancers are resilient and what they can do is dance and express themselves through movement.”
The dancers learned their performance online using Google Meet.
“It was a challenge preparing for this showcase, but our dancers were courageous and willing to work together in this new ‘normal’,” Pitts said. “ We are so proud of them and happy to share their talents with you this holiday season.”
The dance troupe is an extra-curricular activity at the high school and students were selected through auditions.
