Ozier named Travs interim General Manager
Sophie Ozier, who previously served as assistant General Manager of the Arkansas Travelers, was promoted to interim General Manager on Tuesday.
Ozier replaces Paul Allen, who had served as general manager since 2013 and joined the team as an intern in 2005 before going to work full-time in 2006, the last season the Travs played at the now demolished Ray Winder Field in Little Rock.
Allen will continue to live in North Little Rock and will be working for Swagelok, an industrial supply company with offices in the city.
Ozier has been with the Travs since 2017 when she started as a corporate event planner, and became assistant G.M. in December 2020.
Others who have served as the G.M. of the Travs include Bill Valentine, who held the role for 33 years, and he was replaced by Pete Laven.
The other current front office positions remain the same.
In on the field action, the Travs, this past week, went 3-3 in the six-game trip to Springdale and Northwest Arkansas with Sunday being a wild 11-10 win.
The 3-3 mark kept the Travs above .500 in the league standings and in third. Wichita leads the division, while No. 2 Tulsa hosts the Travs this Tuesday for six consecutive games.
The Travs will be back in North Little Rock on Tuesday, July 6 to face Frisco in a six-game homestand.

Grant Black’s Corner
About Grant Black’s Corner: This is a weekly look at current Minor-League players with Arkansas roots. Have an addition to this list? Email us at arkansas@substack.com or leave a comment on the post.
Newport's Grant Black is still in Memphis and has thrown a total of 36 strikeouts in 30.1 innings pitched for the Redbirds and Double-A Springfield.
Black picked up his second start of the season on Saturday at Toledo and the MudHens. Black’s first start of his Minor-League career also came against Toledo. It was Black’s sixth appearance for the Redbirds has recorded a 4.09 ERA with 10 strikeouts for Memphis.
It was a no-decision day for Black as he threw three innings and gave up three runs before being pulled. Memphis rallied to the win at Toledo on Saturday night though.
The Redbirds are in Memphis this coming week and if you’re willing to brave the traffic jam because of a broken bridge, it could very well be worth the trip. If you happen to be coming from Newport or northeast Arkansas, don’t mess with the new bridge. Just go to Dyersburg, and come down through Ripley. There’s fireworks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night as part of the Fourth of July celebration event at AutoZone Park. You can also buy a ticket to get all you can eat burgers and hot dogs, which seems like a pretty good deal. Get more details by clicking the link here.
