Site work is being done at the intersection of Kirk Road and Chenal Parkway in west Little Rock for a new Costco that should open next year.
Arkansas is one of five states in the country that don’t have a Costco location.
That changes in 2021 as work is ongoing for a new warehouse store at the intersection of Chenal Parkway and Kirk Road in west Little Rock.
A Costco spokeswoman said it was, “company policy to not comment regarding future Costco warehouses until we are ready to share details about the new location.”
She added any announcement would happen in two to three months in advance of opening. Costco’s website only lists one store opening in that time frame, a business center location in Gloucester, Ontario in February 2021.
The Chenal Parkway location sits on roughly 30 acres and site work is being by Georgia-based construction company TD Farrell. That company’s website also doesn’t list any current projects in Arkansas, but they’ve been active in Arkansas previously with shopping center projects in Jonesboro, Russellville and Fayetteville. They also built two of the state’s many Wal-Marts in Magnolia and Nashville.
TD Farrell also seems to be the go-to builder of Costco’s around the country as the company lists 90 construction projects for the company.
For those unfamiliar, Costco is a members-only warehouse store and similar to Sam’s Clubs. There’s two Costco’s in Memphis and a total of seven in a 300-mile radius of Little Rock with around 550 locations in the United States
Generally speaking, a Costco will be between 150,000 to 160,000 square feet of retail and most feature a food court, pharmacy as well as grocery and home items for sale.
