It was a rough day on the pitch for Central Arkansas Christian's soccer teams as both the Mustangs and Lady Mustangs lost in the semifinals of the 3A state soccer tournaments at Burns Park.
The Lady Mustangs lost 2-2 (4-3 PKs) and the Mustangs went down 4-0. Both matches were against Green Forest and CAC won both the boys and girls state championships in 2019, but last season was not played due to the ongoing pandemic.
CAC started the match strong and got the early advantage after Green Forest was whistled for a tackle on a scoring opportunity in the box in front of the goalkeeper.
The penalty was a Red Card for Green Forest and the player was ejected, giving CAC a numerical advantage for the rest of the game as Green Forest played short-handed.
On ensuing penalty kick, CAC scored to take the lead, but it didn't last long as Green Forest responded with a goal of its own to tie the match backup at 1-1.
Freshman Madelynn Morrow put CAC back up with a goal, and it was 2-1 at the half.
Late in the second half, Green Forest was able to tie the match backup and send it into overtime.
Then the second overtime came and went and the match came down to penalty kicks.
On the fifth and final attempt, Green Forest was able to score first, to take the 4-3 advantage. CAC had the chance to tie, but Elise Hankins's shot was stopped by a diving Green Forest goalkeeper and the match was over.
CAC's season ends the year at 10-3-1.

BOYS
CAC ends the year at 11-4-2 after a 4-0 loss to Green Forest.
The Tigers got the advantage early and kept it that was with an aggressive style of play that keep the ball in front of CAC the entire match.
The Mustangs were held to just three shots on goal as Green Forest kept the ball away from CAC.
