Bryant took care of business last Saturday and defeated North Little Rock, 27-17, in the Class 7A state championship game at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. This was Bryant’s third consecutive state title, while this was North Little Rock’s fifth consecutive championship game appearance. Conference rivals, Bryant went 5-1 against North Little Rock the past three years, with the last North Little Rock win on Oct. 26, 2018 when the ‘Cats won, 34-28.
The advantage over the years has tilted Bryant’s way, but that wasn’t always true. North Little Rock went 5-0 against the Hornets from 2017 to 2011, with two wins occurring in 2016. The game had 7,828 in attendance but crowd size was limited because of the ongoing pandemic. Bryant’s Tanner Anderson was named the game’s Most Valuable Player while the Burlsworth Award went to Bryant’s Rodicho Martin and North Little Rock’s Deandre Jones, an offensive lineman. For a highlight video of Jones, click here North Little Rock’s offense was keyed by senior quarterback Kareame Cotton, who passed for 84 yards, and running back Fred O’Donald, who rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
Cotton was recently named All-State and has committed to play football next season at Northwestern State in Louisiana.
