Case management services available for tornado survivors
The rubble from last year’s March 31 tornado is still strewn across Pulaski County as a number of homes in North Little Rock and Little Rock are still being rebuilt.
Disaster case management for those survivors is now available from St. Vincent DePaul Disaster Case Management, a free service which connects households with case managers.
Those case managers work one-on-one with families to meet unmet needs and get access to resources that are available from the various federal agencies and insurance companies, along with local organizations. St. Vincent DePaul Disaster Case Management is a Catholic lay organization.
The services are funded by the Arkansas Community Foundation and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy.

Early voting starts next week
The March 5 primary and judicial elections are now less than three weeks away and the signs of the election are everywhere.
Literally, you can’t drive almost anywhere in central Arkansas and not see a yard sign on the side of the road. There’s also a near constant stream of mailers filling up your mailbox as well.
Judicial races are state-wide and any Pulaski County resident can vote for local judges.
Notable races include:
Arkansas Supreme Court, Chief Justice, Position 1: Currently held by Mountain View’s Dan Kemp but he’s retiring making the seat open.
Candidates are:
Justice Rhonda Wood
Justice Karen Baker
Justice Barbara Womack Webb
Jay Martin
Wood, Baker and Webb already serve on the state Supreme Court, while Martin, a lawyer, is a former state representative who served North Little Rock.
If Wood, Baker or Webb were to win the race, their replacement would be appointed by Gov. Sarah Sanders, and that person would serve until 2026, or until the next election.
Arkansas Supreme Court, Associate Justice, Position 2: This seat is currently held by interim Justice Cody Hiland, who was appointed by Sanders last year after the death of Robin Wynne. Hiland is ineligible to run for the seat.
Candidates are:
Justice Courtney Hudson
Circuit Judge Carlton D. Jones
Hudson, who already serves as a Justice and was mostly recently re-elected in 2018 but for a different seat. If she wins, her replacement would also be appointed by Sanders, but if she loses, she will continue to serve in her current role. Jones is also a judge in Texarkana.
Arkansas Court of Appeals, Associate Judge, District 6, Position 1: Rita Gruber is retiring making the seat open.
Candidates include:
Molly McNulty
Circuit Judge Casey Tucker
Pam Hathaway
McNulty and Hathaway are both Little Rock lawyers, while Tucker is a judge.
Circuit Judge – District 6, Division 17, Subdistrict 6.2: Currently held by Judge Mackie Pierce, who is running for another judgeship, making the seat open.
Candidates include:
Brent Eubanks
Robert Cortinez
Brooke Augusta Ware
All three are Little Rock lawyers.
State District Judge, District 31, Pulaski: Currently held by Wayne Gruber, who is joining his wife, Judge Rita Gruber, in retirement.
Candidates include
Circuit Judge Chip Welch
Beth Burgess
Welch is a long-time and well known local judge, while Burgess is an attorney in Perry County.
State District Judge, District 31, Little Rock 1: Currently held by Melanie Martin, who is not running for re-election.
Candidates include:
Jill Kamps
Circuit Judge Mackie Pierce
One of the more tightly contested races, Kamps is a deputy prosecuting attorney with broad local support while Pierce is a judge and also enjoys broad local support. Outside of the state Supreme Court, this might be the tightest election to watch on March 5.
State District Judge, District 31, Little Rock 2: Currently held by Vic Fleming, who is (DOWN eight letters) retiring? Correct. Fleming will continue creating crossword puzzles for the New York Times, among others. He's (UP, 11 letters) fascinating? We’ll allow it.
Candidates include:
Circuit Judge Herb Wright
Robert Tellez
Wright is already a judge, while Tellez is a lawyer in North Little Rock and expect another close race.

Early voting begins across Pulaski County next Tuesday, Feb. 20, and will continue through Monday, March 4.
